Square Foot Garden Glory–bucket list #42 24 August 2010

Filed under: Bucket List, LivinLife — WarriorWife @ 2:54 pm

Yesterday I picked some carrots and tomatoes and squash from my garden.  Even though I’ve grown up gardening my whole life, having my own garden has been such a surprising experience.  Harvesting the produce is so fulfilling—something that never hit me as a teenager working in my dad’s garden.  My little heart was so happy carrying my handfuls of veggies into the house last night.  It totally cancels out all the troubles and the “failures” this first garden has struggled through.  I’m already looking forward to next year’s garden.  I see how this hobby can become addicting.

My father-in-law and brother-in-law helped The Warrior build the garden, and then it was all up to me.  Check it off the bucket list, hooray!  This is definitely one to repeat over and over and over again. :)

Strawberry Disgustingness 12 May 2010

Today for lunch I decided to venture out and try something new.  I’d participate in the green smoothie revolution sweeping the nation!  It was great! It was healthy!  It was GOOD FOR ME!

Um.  I fail.  I started with yogurt (soy, since my nursing infant is allergic to dairy), added some spinach, and then asked the dangerous question: “What else?”  Oh my fridge provided, yes it provided plentifully.  I dumped in fresh strawberries, baby carrots, sprouts, and a roma tomato.  Yes.  Yes, I did get a bit carried away.  Okay, fine.  A LOT carried away.  I was distracted by this romantic notion that my green smoothie was going to be a bit more V-8 like, and give me all my veggie servings for the day!  Hooray!

Sadly, it was disgusting.  Strawberry Disgusting in smoothie form.  Adding a bunch of sugar didn’t even help, and that’s saying something.

What a waste of strawberries and yogurt.  I’m sticking to regular smoothies from now on.  I LIKE the NON-GREEN!

Tastes like Chicken 22 February 2010

Our little WB is to the stage where she just loves to stick things in her mouth.  Especially her toy monkey.  At her 4 month checkup the doctor told us that WB is developing on track and the fact that she is now salivating and putting things in her mouth means we can introduce her to different foods.  Not that we can feed her solids, but we can let her put some in her mouth and get a feel for different tastes and textures.  We’ve just started doing this, but we expect to have a lot of fun watching her continue to grow and develop.

(A short clip of WB and her monkey)

If you’re curious here are her numbers:

  • Height: 26.25″ (98% percentile)
  • Weight: 14 lbs 4.5 ounces (66% percentile)
  • Head circumference: can’t remember, but still pretty small

The usual… school & work 21 February 2010

Filed under: LivinLife — TheWarrior @ 5:54 pm

I remember a time in my life when people asked how I was and I would respond, “school and work.”  I didn’t think anything of it.  I had been doing it for so long that it just felt normal.  Looking back I didn’t realize how hectic life was.  Then I think to myself why on earth did I sign up for this again?  I know a Masters Degree is valuable, but I really don’t like school… but now with only 4 months left I am excited to get my life back!

I now have a new appreciation for “school & work”, especially when I see others doing so with kids. Several of my siblings and cousins are working towards their degrees and I am amazed at how well they balance the crazy schedule that is “school & work”.

Giggle 13 February 2010

Filed under: Funny, LivinLife — TheWarrior @ 10:50 pm

Our cute little baby girl has the cutest giggle.  Baby laughter has got to be one of the best things to hear, especially when compared to the opposite that is screaming-their-head-off-and-you-dont-know-why.  Tonight as WW was changing WB’s diaper I heard some laughter so I quickly grabbed the camera and caught a few moments of this beautiful sound.  Here’s the clip, enjoy!
