Surf is UP 31 August 2008

Ole from Cancun.

We suck at Spanish.  We keep trying to speak, and sadly enough, it comes out in German.  Sometimes that comes in handy as we dodge the timeshare salesmen–we just pretend to only speak German.
The trip down went smoothly.  WW packed all our stuff into 2 carryons and a backpack, so we did not have to check any luggage.  There was some fear that hurricane Gustav would give us problems, but the sky is only partly cloudy and our trip will go on.   TW is dying in the humidity, but it is still fun.  Last night we unpacked our 2 carry-ons, then ate at the hotel restaurant, then walked out to the beach…we didnt actually make it to the beach though because the surf and the waves have come up all the way to the hotel property line.  Red flags means no swimming allowed. And we were “saved” by some plastered Irish guys sitting out watching the surf and warning unsuspecting tourists not to go down the stairs to the beach.  They were funny–so drunk they could hardly speak although their “f” word skills still worked great. :)

We will try to write more later.  Internet at the hotel is EXPENSIVE so we are at a little cafe down the road.

Heading to Cancun 30 August 2008

Filed under: Travels & Trips — TheWarrior @ 8:38 am

We all know why rates are lower when traveling to Cancun during “hurricane season”, but we all think… “That it couldn’t happen to us!”  Well we are heading towards tropical storm Gustav this morning…

Here is a pictorial showing our chances of experiencing a little bit of Gustav:

Now… to calm your nerves here is a pictorial showing the 3-day predicted path:

So far we’ve scheduled a trip to see the Chichen Itza Ruins, take a wave runner tour through the Aquaray Jungle, and we are hoping to visit Cozumel, Xel-Ha or Xcaret.  Plenty to keep up busy for 5 days!

#58 – Spend a day at the movies and see at least 3 shows 27 August 2008

Filed under: Bucket List — WarriorWife @ 9:02 am

For my birthday this year, on our Friday off of work, we crossed this one off of the bucket list. People thought I was crazy, but TW and I planned it all out carefully and I was excited for the day “sans reality”–what more could you ask for on your birthday?

We stocked up on smuggling-junk food and headed over to the theater.  It wasn’t even open yet.  Our movie started in 5 minutes and they were just showing up to start the popcorn machines.  Antsy?  Yes. Yes I was.  But I passed the time talking with the 3 ten year olds in line who were sure they were missing their movie because it started five minutes ago and WHY wasn’t the ticket office open yet?

On the good side the whole day the theater was pretty empty, but let’s tell the truth–it was the dollar theater.  (Did the 10 year olds at the beginning tip you off to that?)  Not that we were too cheap for all the shows at matinee prices.  Instead we sacrificed stadium reclining seating to see 4 movies we actually WANTED to see.  As uncool as such a trip would probably make us, we stuck to our guns and our shoes stuck to the floor.

We saw 4 movies.  Yep.  Do the double take…FOUR.  And those were…

Iron Man         Horton Hears a Who         The Hulk         Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

The only disappointment of the day were the disgusting super cool teenagers who apparently decided spit all over our car windows during our last show.

1 day

4 movies

10 hours

Total cost: $19

Recommend the movies.  Recommend the experience.  Recommend the nicer theater without the expectorating teenagers.

3 Mondays on a Tuesday 26 August 2008

That’s the kind of day I had at work.

If the title didn’t give you a clear enough picture, The Warrior called at 3pm to chat a bit.

TW:  “Lunch was so great today.  Super nummy! (pork roast, sweet potatoes, and squash)”

Me:  “Yeah! It was good, huh?  Those leftovers worked out really well–super tasty.”

We hang up shortly after, and 3 work tasks later I realize…I didn’t eat lunch today.

All that agreement on tasty food was about YESTERDAY’S leftovers.

Four Fours… 25 August 2008

Filed under: Memories & Memes — WarriorWife @ 12:23 pm

So the title of this post looks totally french.  Not that I’m all that familiar with that language, but somehow it looks french to me.

Here we go with a fun little meme.  Feel free to put yours in the comments…

  • Four places that I go to over and over:  Costco, the bathroom, David’s cube (at work), my bedroom
  • Four of my favorite places to eat:  Cafe Rio, Cheesecake Factory, Famous Dave’s, my kitchen.
  • Four places I would rather be right now:  Reading a good book, with TW, with friends, on vacation.
  • Four TV shows I watch over and over:  Bones, So You Think You Can Dance, Numbers, Without a Trace
